People

In the Cyclades, and particularly in Tinos, connecting with a community means entering a territory shaped equally by endurance and erosion. Any meaningful engagement must begin not with intervention, but with listening — to the land, to its materials, and to the people layered with memories embedded in craft, religion, migration, and labor. That is what toichos project represents – relationships the toichos project starts with its people. Marble carvers, dry-stone builders, local organisations, researchers, architects, designers, archaeologists, weavers, and young collaborators exchange knowledge across generations, reconnecting the island’s living traditions with contemporary thinking.

We are so enormously proud have been blessed to be trusted and have the support of the island’s community in many aspects.

  • The Environmental Team of the Vocational High School of Tinos that was kind enough to come and build with us a 10 meter a wall close to the renowned “Our Lady of Tinos” church.
  • The Association of Women that encouraged us and trusted so as to give their sensitive textiles as a loan to us. Wonderful 70 year old crafts that worked in tandem with the creations of our participants.

The Toichos project, which surprisingly is pronounced teehos, meaning wall in Greek is a multifaceted initiative organized by @nwmw.gr based on the idea of @mathias.palazzi aiming to connect traditional techniques with contemporary architectural practice combining foreign and local points of view on a multidisciplinary level.

Participants: Marlon Bagnou Beido, Ophelie Dozat, Anna Saint Pierre, Côme Rolin, Olivier Thomas, Mathias Vincent.
